BMW Tire & Wheel Protection. What's covered?
A pothole on your commute. A nail you never saw. A scrape along the edge of a wheel. They may look like similar problems, but the coverage questions are different.
Here's how BMW Tire & Wheel Protection works—and what to check in your agreement.

The quick answer
Road-hazard damage.
With a separate option
for cosmetic repairs.
BMW Tire & Wheel Protection provides replacement coverage for tires and wheels with qualifying structural damage from road hazards, including potholes, nails and glass. Optional Cosmetic Coverage adds eligible cosmetic wheel repair.
The cause and type of damage matter. Your selected coverage, tire condition and agreement terms determine whether a particular claim qualifies.
The core protection
Structural damage
This is the road-hazard side of the program. A tire puncture or damaged wheel needs to be evaluated against the agreement's definition of structural damage.
A wheel that looks bent is not automatically an approved replacement. Ask the service team to document the damage and its effect on the tire-and-wheel assembly.
Compare common situations →An optional addition
Cosmetic wheel repair
Concerned about wheel nicks or scrapes? Check whether Optional Cosmetic Coverage is included in your agreement.
This benefit addresses eligible cosmetic repairs. It does not mean every damaged finish qualifies or that a scraped wheel automatically gets replaced.

Different situations.
Whether you're driving through Latham, heading into Albany or commuting from Saratoga, start with what happened. These examples show what to ask about, rather than guarantee an outcome.
| What happened? | Coverage to check | What matters |
|---|---|---|
| A pothole damaged a tire or wheel. | Road-hazard structural protection. | The damage must qualify under the agreement; inspection is needed. |
| A nail or glass punctured a tire. | Road-hazard structural protection. | The tire's condition, cause of damage and claim requirements. |
| A wheel has a surface scrape. | Optional Cosmetic Coverage. | Whether the option was selected and the wheel and repair qualify. |
| The tires are worn from driving. | Routine replacement at your expense. | Ordinary wear is different from covered road-hazard damage. |

What isn't
automatically covered?
Tire & Wheel Protection is not a replacement for routine tire care. Published BMW program materials list exclusions and conditions that can affect a claim.
Wear, condition and the cause of damage
- Normal wear, improper wear and dry rot.
- Tires below the agreement's minimum tread-depth requirement.
- Cosmetic damage to tires.
- Vandalism and certain construction-zone road conditions.
- Cosmetic wheel damage when the optional benefit is not included.
Wheel finishes and repair limits
Even with cosmetic coverage, wheel materials and finishes can be excluded. Ask the team to check your specific wheels and any limit on individual repairs.
Approval before work begins
Contact the servicing BMW Center or your agreement administrator before authorizing work. If emergency repairs are necessary, follow the agreement's emergency procedure and documentation requirements.
These are examples, not a complete exclusion list. Review the agreement issued for your vehicle, including any state-specific provisions.

Bring your questions to BMW of Latham. A useful comparison starts with your vehicle, your wheels and the actual agreement.
What would I pay if I have a claim?
Ask for the plan price and any deductible in writing. Have the team explain whether the deductible applies per claim and whether cosmetic repairs have different terms.
Are my current tires and wheels eligible?
Share the tire size, wheel material and finish, plus any aftermarket or seasonal setup. Ask the team to check the agreement's equipment requirements before you assume a set is covered.
What happens if one tire needs replacement?
Ask how your agreement handles the damaged tire and any additional tire replacement recommended for your vehicle. Do not assume an approved claim pays for an undamaged matching tire or a complete set.
What else should I check?
Confirm the coverage dates, purchase eligibility, cosmetic option, repair limits, towing benefits and cancellation or transfer terms. Keep a copy of the agreement with your vehicle records.
Already have damage?
Start with an inspection.
Tell us what happened.
Call BMW of Latham to discuss the damage and arrange the next step. Ask about transport if the vehicle may be unsafe to drive.
Have the agreement handy.
Bring your VIN, mileage and protection paperwork. A purchase receipt or registration page can help identify your selected benefits.
Keep the useful details.
Note when and where the damage happened. Retain photos, invoices and receipts, and ask what must be preserved for inspection.
Understand the next step.
Ask what has been approved and what you would pay before authorizing the work. If coverage does not apply, request a service estimate.
A few more answers
Good questions.
Straight answers.
Small details can make a difference. Here are the questions worth asking.
Does BMW Tire & Wheel Protection cover potholes?
Qualifying structural damage from potholes can be covered. The specific damage and agreement terms determine whether a claim is approved.
Does BMW Tire & Wheel Protection cover curb rash?
Eligible cosmetic wheel repairs require Optional Cosmetic Coverage. A surface scrape does not automatically qualify for structural replacement coverage.
Are run-flat tires automatically covered?
Do not assume coverage based on tire type alone. Ask the team to verify your tire's eligibility, condition and damage against your agreement.
Is there a deductible?
Check your agreement. The product or package selected determines the applicable deductible; do not assume every plan has the same terms.
Can I buy protection after purchasing my BMW?
Confirm purchase eligibility with BMW of Latham. Ask before completing your vehicle purchase; do not assume the product can be added later or used for existing damage.
