BMW of Latham · Put your miles into the picture
BMW fuel savings calculator
What could your next BMW mean for your gas budget? Add a few numbers and see the difference—whether you’re comparing MPG, a plug-in hybrid or an electric vehicle.
For example, at 12,000 miles a year and $4 per gallon, moving from 25 MPG to 30 MPG reduces gasoline spending by about $27 a month, or $320 a year.
If the calculator does not appear, our team can help you work through the same comparison.
What are you considering?
Estimated gasoline savings
About $320 less on gas per year.
- Your current gas spending
- $160/mo
- Gas spending with your next BMW
- $133/mo

Gasoline costs only. This is not a vehicle payment or total ownership-cost estimate.
Starting figures are examples, not BMW model ratings or live prices. Use your current average MPG and the matching rating for the BMW you’re considering. The same gas price is used for both vehicles; different fuel grades may cost different amounts.
A useful starting point for your next BMW.
Start with a normal week.
The commute down the Northway, errands around Latham and weekend trips all count. Use the miles you actually drive to compare what a change in MPG could mean at the pump.
For a gas BMW or mild hybrid, enter MPG. For an electric BMW, the calculator shows the gasoline spending you would avoid.
Considering a plug-in hybrid?
How often you charge affects how much driving you can do without gasoline. Adjust the electric-driving slider to reflect your routine, then use the vehicle’s MPG for the remaining miles.
Electric and plug-in hybrid results exclude charging costs. They show gas spending avoided, not your total savings after electricity.
Which MPG number should I use?
Use your current measured average or a matching EPA rating. Compare combined with combined, or highway with highway. For a plug-in hybrid, use its MPG in gasoline operation—not MPGe. The MPG values above are examples you can replace.
What if I rarely charge a plug-in hybrid?
Move the electric-driving share toward zero. That shows a comparison based mostly on gasoline driving. Count miles as electric only when they use no gasoline; a charged battery does not guarantee the engine will stay off.
How is the estimate calculated?
Yearly gas spending = annual miles ÷ MPG × gas price. For a plug-in hybrid, only the miles using gasoline are included in that part of the estimate. A fully electric vehicle has no gasoline expense. Monthly figures divide the annual total by 12. Results are rounded, and actual use varies with driving and conditions.
